Afilias Chosen to Register .ME. 2008-01-21, HostMan.biz Afilias, a registry services provider, announced that it has been selected to provide registry services supporting the .ME domain, the new country code top-level domain for the republic of Montenegro. The company states that in 2007, they, joined with strategic partners GoDaddy.com and ME-Net (a Montenegrin organization) to submit a proposal through a competitive bidding process to the government of Montenegro for the contract. The company further states that in support of its proposal, Afilias, GoDaddy.com and ME-Net have created a new organization called doMEn (the word for 'domain' in Montenegrin) which will act as the administrative body with strategic oversight for the domain. It will provide registry technology similar to what it uses today to support other domains such as .INFO and .ORG. Afilias will also make .ME available to its customer base of leading registrars. The company also declared that the launch is expected later this year, pending the outcome of contract negotiations with the Government of Montenegro. doMEn will co-ordinate closely with the Government appointed .ME Technical Administrator in all aspects of domain management for .ME.
