Data393 Adds Data Storage Facility for Photobucket.
2006-06-02, HostMan.biz Data393 today announced a new colocation agreement with Photobucket, the world's leading visual content hosting and publishing service, to locate a portion of the company's data storage equipment at Data393's $30 million facility in Englewood, Colo. Data393 will supply Photobucket with a data storage facility that includes power, cooling, and access to a 10 GigE Internet pipeline. Photobucket will use its own equipment and software, and Photobucket personnel will manage the company's operations in the data center. Photobucket provides a simple, fast, and reliable service that enables consumers to share and publish visual digital content online. Images, graphic art, and videos can be directly linked from Photobucket to any site, including popular sites like eBay, Gaiaonline, Piczo, Blogger, LiveJournal, Friendster, and Myspace. By hosting members' visual digital content, Photobucket relieves them of the investment and burden of owning and operating their own servers. Processing more than 50 billion image requests per month, around two percent of all U.S. Internet traffic, Photobucket's rapid growth has led to increased demand for reliable connectivity and additional storage. A percentage of Photobucket's Internet traffic is routed to Data393, and some of the images hosted by Photobucket are stored in its Englewood facility. "We selected Data393 due to its capacity to handle large amounts of Internet traffic," said Photobucket's Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer Darren Crystal. "This agreement gives Photobucket access to an additional secure data storage facility with room to grow. With its massive, redundant 10 GigE Internet pipeline, Data393 is one of only a few data centers in the country with enough bandwidth to support Photobucket's fast-growing business while ensuring we remain online and active." Photobucket has over 16 million registered members and is adding over 4 million new images daily (45 new images per second). It now ranks as a Top 100 site by traffic according to both Alexa and Nielsen/Netratings.
