Globix UK Invests 2 Million Pounds in Hosting Facility.
2006-05-23, HostMan.biz Globix UK, the managed hosting and security provider, today announced it is investing 2 million pounds in a high-density hosting facility at its data centre in London. The 4,000 square-foot facility will house 20 kilowatt high-density hosting racks. No other data centre in London has the power and cooling capabilities to support such an advanced blade server environment. Space will be available this summer. The build-out comes at a time when London is reaching 100% hosting capacity; both in terms of space within existing data centres and land on which to build new facilities. It is estimated there will be 0% availability by 2009, according to Andrew Jay at CB Richard Ellis, one of the UK's leading commercial real estate advisors. Philip Cheek, Managing Director at Globix UK, states, ``The only way to overcome this issue of space is to use blade server technology. However, most data centres were built during the dotcom boom and simply do not have the power and cooling capabilities needed to support high-density hosting. The Globix data centre was built before the dotcom boom and was engineered to support six floors, each 18,000 square foot in size. No other hosting provider in the UK can rival this ratio of power to racks.'' Globix's unrivalled power reserves will ensure its data centre customers are not seriously affected by power outages. This unparalleled backup and power generation is critical for business continuity in the event of a disaster or terrorist attack, especially for financial institutions and organisations that rely on network-based services. American Power Conversion (APC), the leading provider of AC and DC-based backup power products and services will provide the industry-leading high-density cooling racks. The data centre will be ideal for organisations such as banks looking to cost effectively outsource computing intensive, mission critical applications. Additionally, this week the Globix data centre was awarded Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) accreditation by OneSec, the PCI DSS security assessor. Globix is the first UK data centre to be granted this status. The standard has been developed by Visa and MasterCard in an attempt to secure web-based payments. The standard defines a series of 12 basic security requirements to ensure that cardholder data is stored, processed and transmitted in a secure manner. The accreditation is particularly important for retail and financial organisations who transact online using Visa and MasterCard as a payment method. Globix is committed to providing a solid foundation for the delivery of its managed services. Last year, major enhancements were made to the Globix core network including enhanced connections to key hubs in Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Paris in Europe, and to New York. |
