Expand Networks Announces Robust Datacenter Appliance.
2006-05-04, HostMan.biz Expand Networks announced a new addition to their Accelerator product family - the Accelerator 7940. Built to support the rapidly growing trend to centralize applications and data, as well as streamlining backup and recovery activities, the Accelerator 7940 has set a new standard for scalable, reliable and highly available solutions. The Accelerator 7940, unlike single-point solutions, fits within an organizations' datacenter infrastructure and total cost of ownership (TCO) requirements. The Accelerator 7940 is a full featured, 2U rack-mounted high-end appliance with support for large numbers of remote sites. Running on Expand's recently unveiled Compass Platform, it features the largest storage capacity in the category - 3 Terabytes (six hot-swappable 500 GB drives) - with full RAID redundancy and dual power supplies. The 7940 was built with scalability and redundancy robust enough to handle an array of the most critical WAN application acceleration applications: Server Consolidation, Web Applications Deployment, Server-Based Computing, Disaster Recovery, Satellite Communications, Voice & Data Convergence and Optimizing MPLS WANs. Expand addressed the pertinent issue of redundancy with the easy-to-swap drives in the event of malfunctions. Unlike alternative solutions, the 7940 offers a comprehensive, scaleable and high availability solution in a competitively priced appliance form factor. "Expand Networks created the Accelerator 7940 based on the demands of the market," said Amir Chitayat, president, Expand Networks. "Countless companies of all sizes are realizing the economical and performance benefits that come with server consolidation. During our R & D process we evaluated all the options, and by increasing the storage capacity to 3 Terabytes, we feel this configuration best serves the datacenter with sufficient storage and enables continuous operation of mission critical applications across the network. The 7940 has the capacity to support higher throughput levels at more remote sites, and this means improving the WAN experience of more users. This is also the right way to do WAFS - with redundant storage and that in turn lowers the TCO." The 7940 runs on Expand's Compass Platform version 6.0 and supports all protocols; TCP, UDP, ICMP, L2TP and others. Configured with 4GB of memory (expandable to 16GB) the Accelerator 7940 offers 45MB of optimized throughput and can support up to 200 connections to remote Accelerators. In the event of a system failure, the 7940 is equipped with a bootable flash card that can be swapped into a spare unit with no need to reconfigure any of the parameters. The spare appliance boots up in seconds and restores the same configuration as before the outage, thus keeping continuity. Pricing for the Accelerator 7940, which can be configured modularly starts at $24,995. The Accelerator 7940 will ship in Q2 2006. |
