GoDaddy.com Now in Washington, D.C..
2006-01-18, HostMan.biz GoDaddy.com, the No. 1 registrar of Internet domain names worldwide, is making a name for itself in Washington with the opening of its new Office of Government Relations. "As the world's largest domain name provider, responsible for more than 11 million domain names, Go Daddy feels an obligation to protect our customers and represent their interests," said Bob Parsons, GoDaddy.com founder and president. "It's an obligation we share with lawmakers and federal officials, so it is important that we be in Washington, as a base of Internet knowledge for Capitol Hill, the Executive Branch and Federal Regulators." Martha Johnston, an Oregon native and D.C. veteran, is now GoDaddy.com's Director of Government Relations, with offices at 400 North Capitol Street. Previously, she worked as Director of Legislative Affairs for the Federal Communications Commission. "I'm proud to represent the leading company in this vital, rapidly-growing industry," Johnston said. "The issues are complex, challenging and unprecedented in their scope. They affect all of our personal and business communications." Johnston began her career "inside the Beltway" in 1977. From 1985 to 1989, she worked for Senator Mitch McConnell, the current Senate Majority Whip. She's also worked for Senator Ted Stevens and former Senators Bob Packwood, Mark Hatfield and Sam Nunn. Johnston left the Hill in 1989 to join the Administration of President George H. W. Bush as Director of Congressional and Legislative Affairs at the USIA and subsequently the Department of State. From 1995 to 2001, she lobbied for the Association of Trial Lawyers of America. |
