UK Fires Take Down Web Host Northgate.
2005-12-13, HostMan.biz Sunday's explosions at an oil depot North of London took some prominent Web sites offline, according to a report by research and analysis firm Netcraft (netcraft.com). Netcraft says the blasts damaged a data center run by Northgate Information Services (northgate-is.com), which was home to the Web sites for audio retailer Richer Sounds and the UK Labor Party. The sites were down for more than 24 hours. Northgate confirmed on Monday that its data center suffered serious damage as a result of the explosion and fires. "The fabric of the building and the fixtures and equipment inside have been badly damaged," the company said in a statement. "The backup systems that were in place have also been rendered inoperable. Northgate's ability to service its customers has therefore been temporarily affected." The company said it had initiated its business continuity plan, restoring services through its data centers and offices around the country. According to Netcraft, the Labor Party has set up a temporary Web site hosted with Pipex Communications (pipex.net). |
