Yahoo! Preparing Podcast Hosting Tool.
2005-11-15, HostMan.biz Yahoo! (yahoo.com) confirmed late last week that it is in the process of developing a service for the publishing and hosting of podcasts. The announcement was made at the first annual Portable Media Expo and Podcasting Conference, held in Ontario, California. Podcasting is the process of delivering audio content via an RSS feed through a downloadable file. The process is beginning to gather significant momentum and could have an impact on the business models of Web hosting providers as hosted content continues to shift from images and text to audio and video, Netcraft (netcraft.com) says. The question is where these products will be hosted – with Web hosting providers or Yahoo! or Google who have the enormous bandwidth and space to do it. Yahoo! entered the podcasting market last month with the introduction of podcasts.yahoo.com. And according to Netcraft, Google and Microsoft are rumored to be developing a similar service with Google further along in development at this point. |
