Digital Realty Buys Data Centers. 2005-10-26, HostMan.biz Digital Realty Trust (digitalrealtytrust.com) said on Wednesday that it had acquired two data center properties in Europe - the IBM Technology Park in Mainz, Germany and the Geneva Data Center in Geneva, Switzerland. The IBM Technology Park consists of 11 buildings on a campus that covers 1.5 million square feet of net rentable space. IBM Germany's 590,000 square foot facility, which hosts software developer and support functions, resides on the campus on a long-term lease. The facility was acquired for 77.1 million Euros. Within close proximity to downtown Geneva, The Geneva Data Center is a three-story building of approximately 60,000 square feet. It is leased on a long-term basis to a single tenant - a Web hosting and IT services provider. The facility was acquired for 10.1 million Euros. "The acquisition of the IBM Technology Park and the Geneva Data Center demonstrates Digital Realty Trust's expanding investment program in Western Europe," says Michael Foust, chief executive officer of Digital Realty Trust. "Upon closing of these latest transactions, our European portfolio will contain four properties totaling over 1.7 million square feet in London, Frankfurt, Amsterdam and Geneva."
