Blogger.com Blocked in Saudi Arabia.
2005-10-06, HostMan.biz According to the Paris-based media group Reporters Without Borders, the weblog publishing and hosting system Blogger.com (blogger.com) has been blocked since October 3, 2005 by the Saudi Arabian government agency that manages Web filtering. The Internet Services Unit, the Saudi agency responsible, acknowledged that access to blogger.com had been blocked but did not offer an explanation, according to reports. The ISU manages the gateway used by all ISPs in Saudi Arabia, enabling it to control Internet exchanges. However, censorship decisions are reportedly made by the Saudi security services. The Saudi government, Reporters Without Borders says, blocks more than 400,000 Web sites. Sites with sexual references, political dissidence and those of non-recognized Islamist movements are the main targets of censorship. Blogger.com is a free service offered by search giant Google (google.com). |
