Web Host Verio Adds to Hurricane Relief.
2005-09-13, HostMan.biz Managed hosting solution provider Verio (verio.com) announced on Monday it is donating its technology services to assist victims of Hurricane Katrina who need temporary housing. Verio will be hosting the KatrinaHousing.org Web site, which helps centralize and organize volunteer housing efforts for Hurricane Katrina survivors. Developed by Web design firm MyTechSupport, the KatrinaHousing.org site enables those who are interested in donating housing to hurricane victims to post offers of rooms, vacant apartments, houses or other housing options. Residents left homeless by the hurricane can browse the site for a list of available housing options, and shelter operators are encouraged to distribute hard copies of the printable lists to victims. Since its September 1st launch, some 20,000 users have visited KatrinaHousing.org per day, generating more than 20G of traffic in the few days. More than 138,000 offers of free housing have been posted to the site, and nearly 4,100 Katrina survivors have so far been placed into temporary housing - a figure that continues to increase. "KatrinaHousing.org saw a need to coordinate the placement of Hurricane Katrina survivors into suitable, temporary housing, and quickly realized that the Internet was the most efficient tool in achieving this," says Paul Wilson, director of KatrinaHousing.org's operations. "We are thrilled that we are able to help America in this way and are grateful that companies such as Verio are assisting with our efforts." |
