More Web Hosts Pitch in for Relief.
2005-09-08, HostMan.biz In the aftermath of the greatest natural disaster to hit the United States, the Web hosting community is contributing what it can to recovery from hurricane Katrina. Web hosting providers Affinity, Go Daddy, Interland, IPOWER and Rackspace, along with WebSiteHostDirectory.com are spearheading an industry-wide donation effort. Affinity Internet (affinity.com) says it is making a donation to the American Red Cross and matching donations made by employees. Go Daddy (godaddy.com) is making a $250,000 donation to relief organization Americares, which will use the funds to deliver supplies to the distressed areas. Interland (interland.com) has been encouraging its customers and visitors to donate to the American Red Cross Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund, and is working alongside customers that are using the Internet to provide relief, such as Ken Burton of the GulfCoastNews.com. The GulfCoastNews.com is operating the Katrina Survivor-Connector List (wx.gulfcoastnews.com/katrina/status.aspx), an interactive database that enables users to list the person or families they are looking to find. IPOWER (ipower.com) is collecting goods for over 500 evacuees that have already been placed in the Phoenix area, and has made its own donations to the American Red Cross. Rackspace Managed Hosting (rackspace.com) is providing free hosting to a number of missing persons sites and relief portals. The company and its employees are also making a large cash donation to the Food Bank. Web hosting portal Website Host Directory (websitehostdirectory.com) is donating a portion of its profits over the next few months to contribute to disaster relief. |
