Cable & Wireless Buys Energis.
2005-08-18, HostMan.biz Cable & Wireless (cw.com) announced on Tuesday that it had acquired fellow UK-based telecommunications provider Energis for an initial cash consideration of $1.08 billion. Francesco Caio, CEO of Cable & Wireless, says the Energis buy makes both financial and strategic sense. The company will add several high-profile customers and streamline its overall operating costs. "The acquisition of Energis is a further step in the development of Cable & Wireless in the UK and will accelerate the strategic transformation that we have undertaken in the last 15 months." Cable & Wireless's purchase of Energis significantly expands its hosting capabilities. Energis is a provider of managed and application hosting services. Its hosting business operates out of four data centers - two facilities in Leeds, one in Walford and one Dublin, Ireland. The facilities total 213,000 square feet. The acquisition is C&W's first significant move in the hosting space since it sold its US hosting assets to SAVVIS early last year. C&W says the deal will be accretive to earnings per share in the first full financial year and beyond. |
