Dotster Shields Email for Domain Holders.
2005-08-17, HostMan.biz Domain registrar Dotster (dotster.com) announced on Wednesday that it would continue to shield the email address of its domain name customers from the WHOIS database at no extra cost. George DeCarlo, vice president of marketing for Dotster, says fighting spammers was a major reason for providing the service. "Shielding our domain owners' real email addresses eliminates the risks of domain-related spam," says DeCarlo. "That risk is serious enough to warrant Dotster giving all of our customers our SpamShield service for free." The company also announced lowered standard pricing for concealed domain registrations as part of its effort to remove cost as a barrier to consumer privacy protection. Dotster is offering WHOIS domain privacy for $2.99 per year, a price the company says is will below industry averages. ICANN mandates that domain registrars provide the name, address, phone number and email address of all domain registrants. The information is publicly accessible. |
