VeriSign Buys Security Firm iDEFENSE.
2005-07-14, HostMan.biz Internet security firm VeriSign (verisign.com) announced on Thursday that it had acquired security intelligence firm iDEFENSE for $40 million in cash. IDEFENSE provides security intelligence on network-based security threats and vulnerabilities to financial services firms, government agencies and large businesses. VeriSign says the acquisition will augment its managed security service offerings and expand its ability to assess and monitor security threats in real time. "Network perimeters are expanding to include customers, partners and remote employees, so enterprises must leverage the most advanced security intelligence to protect customer data and corporate assets," says Judy Lin, executive vice president and general manager for VeriSign Security Services. "The acquisition of iDEFENSE expands the VeriSign suite of managed security services, providing customers with additional capabilities with which to proactively protect their networks from vulnerabilities and attacks." iDEFENSE will take the VeriSign name. All its employees will be retained. |
