US to Retain Root Server Control.
2005-07-05, HostMan.biz The United States government said late last week that it would retain control over all 13 root servers that control Internet traffic despite other countries desires to see them turned over to an international body. Washington's move contradicts previous statements, which indicated control would be ceded to The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers once certain conditions were met. Government representatives said the announcement was made due to growing security threats and the growth of communications and commerce on the Internet. ICANN did not comment on the decision. |
