Data center technology developer PlateSpin (platespin.com) announced on Tuesday that it had introduced new OS portability technology that enables the interchange of data, applications and operating systems across Intel data center infrastructures.
The company says its technology, from a single point of control, can automate the migration of software to servers that are best suited to a particular workload. The technology automates movement between physical servers, virtual infrastructure servers and archived images, optimizing the data center according to the capabilities of the physical and virtual infrastructure.
"The uses for this technology, especially in data centers with multiple types of infrastructure, are just now being understood in the marketplace," says Stephen Pollack, CEO of PlateSpin. "The capability to move the software layer between any combination of physical servers, virtual servers, and images, allows for quick and painless server consolidations, easier disaster recovery to maintain business continuity, dynamic business service optimization as well as a host of other uses such as improved test lab efficiencies and hardware migration.
