Reboots Cost SMEs, Says Fasthosts Study.
2005-06-20, HostMan.biz Small and medium-sized businesses suffer up to two weeks of lost productivity every year due to server downtime, according to a recent study conducted by UK Web hosting provider Fasthosts (fasthosts.co.uk). The study found that a typical SME requires an average of 16 hardware resets every 12 months. Factoring in an average of four hours response time offered by IT support companies and companies can be left waiting for a system restore for 64 hours a year, Fasthosts says. "Server downtime impacts all companies, large and small, but it is the smaller ones that feel the brunt," says Andrew Michael, CEO of Fasthosts. "Unable to perform daily business operations, SMEs put their livelihood on the line every time the server goes down." Fasthosts says that in light of these facts, it has introduced a dedicated server that includes a feature enabling faster hardware reboots. With the feature, customers can access their servers remotely, resetting them through their control panels. |
