Akamai Delivering CourtTV.com Content.
2005-06-16, HostMan.biz Content delivery provider Akamai Technologies (akamai.com) announced on Wednesday that Court TV Online has selected Akamai to provide Internet services for its three Web sites, courttv.com, Crime Library and The Smoking Gun. According to Akamai, both courttv.com and thesmokinggun.com experience significant surges in traffic during major trials, or when breaking major news stories with the publication of exclusive documents. Monday night's Michael Jackson verdict announcement brought courttv.com an increase of over 1000 percent in Web site traffic in the hours following the decision. The site drew in close to 25,000 hits per second from eager visitors waiting to hear the verdicts and read more about the courtroom proceedings. "When major trial news hits, our sites get bombarded," says Emil Freund, senior VP of IT at Court TV. "The day of the Jackson verdict, Akamai smoothly handled an almost instantaneous and extremely large burst in Web traffic for courttv.com without any hitches. We knew from experience that we needed a reliable, fault-tolerant system that can handle an incredible surge in traffic, and Akamai delivered." Courttv.com is an online resource that covers major trials and other legal news. The Smoking Gun provides visitors with documents relating to trials and other newsworthy events and people, taken from government and law enforcement sources, via Freedom of Information requests, and from court files. |
