HostingCon 2005 Kicks Off.
2005-06-07, HostMan.biz The first ever HostingCon (hostingcon.com) - the first conference in years to focus exclusively on the Web hosting industry - kicked off on Monday, June 6, at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare hotel in Chicago. The conference's opening day began with a keynote presentation by Ensim (ensim.com) CEO Sandip Gupta and featured a series of information sessions and discussion panels, including presenters such as Todd Benjamin, CEO of Rodopi software (rodopi.com) and Paul Engels, Hostopia (hostopia.com) vice presidet of marketing and business development. A bustling exhibit hall featured close to 50 booths, including some elaborate presentations by companies like Microsoft (microsoft.com), which set up a small theater; FastServers.Net (fastservers.net), whose booth featured poker and blackjack tables; Ping! Zine (pingzine.com), which set up two big-screen Xbox stations; and EV1Servers (ev1servers.net), whose towering central booth included a video bowling simulation. The day concluded with another keynote presentation by EV1's CEO Robert Marsh, who offered Web hosts advice for achieving growth and profitability. George A. Roberts IV, CEO of Web host Interjuncture (interjuncture.com), and organizer of HostingCon said he was pleased with the way the event had turned out, despite some difficulties with registration and events scheduling. But he expects to hold an improved event next year, on a larger scale. "We know some things that went wrong this year, and we're being really open about improving it," says Roberts. "We want to know what people think we can improve on, so we're going to be sending surveys to all this year's attendees to ask them what we can do better next time." The event continues Tuesday with keynote presentations by SWsoft (sw-soft.com) CEO Serguei Beloussov and Microsoft's (microsoft.com) general manager of hosting solutions, Pascal Martin, as well as a fresh track of information sessions and panels. |
