Apache Widens Lead, Netcraft Says. 2005-06-01, HostMan.biz The gap between Apache and Microsoft's share of the Web server market widened again last month, according to research and analysis firm Netcraft's (http://www.netcraft.com/) June 2005 Web server survey. Apache's share of the market rose 0.33 percent from 69.37 to 69.70 percent while Microsoft lost 0.28 percent, going from 20.54 to 20.26 percent. Meanwhile, SunOne lost 0.07 percent and Zeus gained 0.01 percent market share. Netcraft's monthly Web server survey measures Web server software usage on all Internet connected computers. The June 2005 survey received responses from 64,808,485 sites, a gain of 1.27 million hostnames over last month. According to Netcraft, in the first six months of the year, the Internet has added 7.83 million sites. Most of that growth has occurred in the United States, with a gain of 5.14 million hostnames. Other countries with strong growth in 2005 include Germany (575,000), The United Kingdom (436,000), South Korea (237,900) and Sweden (143,000).
