Apache, Microsoft Gain, Netcraft Says.
2005-05-02, HostMan.biz Both Apache and Microsoft made slight gains in their shares of the Web server market, according to research and analysis firm Netcraft's (netcraft.com) May Web Server Survey. Apache gained .05 percent, going from 69.32 to 69.37 percent market share, while Microsoft gained .09 percent, taking its market share from 20.45 to 20.54 percent. Meanwhile, Sun and Zeus lost ground, dropping to 2.92 and 0.89 percent market share. Netcraft's monthly Web server survey measures Web server software usage on all Internet connected computers. The May 2005 survey received responses from 63,532,742 sites, a gain of 1.24 million hostnames over last month. According to Netcraft, a monthly average of 1.2 million additional sites have responded to the survey in 2005. April showed the strongest growth when an additional 1.7 million sites responded. |
