The Planet's IPS Blocks Attacks.
2005-04-13, HostMan.biz Managed Web hosting provider The Planet (theplanet.com) said on Wednesday that its recent deployment of the TippingPoint (tippingpoint.com) 2400 intrusion prevention system is helping the company block hundreds of thousands of attacks per hour in its data centers. During Internet worm and botnet storms, the system has blocked up to one million attacks per hour. "Our data centers share a total of 32 GBps of backbone capacity, and the only network IPS technology capable of efficiently protecting our network came from TippingPoint," says John Bradberry, vice president of information security at The Planet. "Only TippingPoint could scale to keep up with our fantastic growth." The system, deployed in both of The Planet's data center facilities, provides protection against more than 1,000 exploits and vulnerabilities. These include the attacks experienced most often by the Planet – the MS-SQL Slammer-Sapphire worm, the family of phpBB exploits, and attacks against Microsoft RPC services. The TippingPoint system at The Planet's D2 Data center digests more than 1.5 million packets per second, while the system at the D4 Data center digests more than 2.5 million. "This system is essential to our competitive position," says Bradberry. "During our continued expansion, including the opening of our newest data center at the Infomart, we're giving customers the most effective network protection available without sacrificing network performance. TippingPoint is saving our customers money by protecting their networks and online assets from malicious attacks and unwanted traffic." |
