Akamai President Named New CEO.
2005-04-05, HostMan.biz Content delivery network operator Akamai Technologies Inc. (akamai.com) announced on Monday it has appointed former president Paul Sagan to CEO. Sagan replaces founding CEO George Conrades, who in turn becomes executive vice chairman, stepping aside from day-to-day management duties. "It's a very natural evolution," says Sagan. "The most important thing is that we have a consistent path, and that there are no surprises for our customers." Sagan does not have any plans for immediate changes at Akamai, which employs most of its 600 employees in Cambridge, Massachusetts but also operates a development center in San Mateo, California. Akamai will focus on integrating the operations of its recently acquired Santa Clara, California-based Speedera Networks Inc. Akamai provides servers for Web content providers, and says it handles 10 to 20 percent of the daily Web traffic around the globe, including one-fifth of the world's 500 biggest companies and more than half of the top online retailers. |
