VeriSign Likely to Continue Running .net.

According to reports, VeriSign (verisign.com) is likely to continue running the .net top-level domain, the third most popular domain suffix on the Internet, for several more years.
ICANN (icann.org) has reportedly said it would promptly enter negotiations with VeriSign, which currently operates the .com and .net registries, in order to reach a new agreement. The decision comes on the heels of an independent report by Telcordia, which recommended that VeriSign continue to operate the .net registry. Telcordia's report is believed to be very influential on ICANN's decision-making process.
VeriSign, reports say, is expected to conclude a new deal with ICANN in the next two weeks. It would take effect on July 1, 2005.
