Security Space Survey Has Apache on Top. 2005-02-24, HostMan.biz Despite a decline of 1.16 million sites in the last month, the Apache Web server continues to dominate the Web server market, holding a market share of 74.67 percent, according to the January 2005 Security Space (securityspace.com) Web server survey. Microsoft followed Apache at 17.92 percent while other platforms, including Netscape, Zeus and WebSTAR all held less than one percent market share. According to the survey, Apache lost 2.34 percent market share over the last month, while Microsoft added 1.27 percent. The Security Space Web Server Survey is a survey of software usage on the Internet broken down by 86 domains. It reportedly counts only those Web sites referenced by other sites. The survey polled approximately 19.8 million Web sites in January. By contrast, Netcraft's (netcraft.com) Web server survey measures software usage on all Internet connected computers. Netcraft's January survey polled 59,100,880 sites. Like the Security Space survey, Apache held the largest market share at 68.83 percent with Microsoft far behind at 20.85 percent.
