Ireland Picks TeleCity Data Center.
2005-02-18, HostMan.biz TeleCity (telecity.com), a provider of colocation and managed data center services, announced on Friday that Ireland's Internet exchange, the Internet Neutral Exchange Association (inex.ie), located its second exchange point in the company's Dublin, Ireland data center facility. Under the terms of the agreement, TeleCity will host INEX's infrastructure and help INEX to interconnect its members' networks and exchange Internet traffic. TeleCity said its customers would see reduced upstream connectivity costs through direct peering with INEX members. INEX currently has seventeen members: Bytel, Cable & Wireless, Clearwire Ireland, Colt Telecom, Digiweb, eircom, Esat BT, HEAnet, Hosting365, Internet Ireland, Irish Broadband, Magnet Networks, Microsoft, Netsource, NTL Ireland and Smart Telecom. It expects membership to hit 40 in 2005. "I am delighted that INEX has chosen to operate its second switching centre from TeleCity's data center," says Andy Horn, managing director of TeleCity UK and Ireland. "The implementation of INEX in TeleCity's data center complements our portfolio of colocation and connectivity services. This is a very prestigious and strategically important customer for us and will allow us to maintain our position at the forefront of the colocation industry in Ireland." According to TeleCity, the growth of Internet traffic in Ireland was the main reason INEX moved to a second location. "TeleCity's reputation, location and customer base in Ireland made it the natural choice for our expansion plans," says Barry Rhodes, general manager of INEX. "We look forward to a long relationship with TeleCity which will be mutually beneficial to both parties. TeleCity will offer a secure and resilient location for INEX members. In turn, INEX will offer any company linking into TeleCity significant connectivity and peering benefits." TeleCity said it now hosts six of the most important Internet exchange points in Europe, including LINX in London, AMSIX in Amsterdam, DE-CIX 2 in Frankfurt, FNIX and FreeIX in Paris, MaNAP in Manchester and now INEX. |
