Novell Expands Linux for Data Center.
2005-02-16, HostMan.biz Linux distributor Novell (novell.com) said on Tuesday that it plans to leverage its SUSE LINUX Enterprise Sever platform to expand its line of data center solutions. The company says the move offers enterprise customers the benefits of open source and Linux, reducing enterprise costs, improving flexibility and increasing the quality of data center functionality. Novell says it will focus on the areas of application infrastructure, storage software, virtualization, systems management and security. "Expanding our offerings in the corporate data center is a natural for Novell and Linux given our history with operating systems, high-availability solutions and virtualization, and our customers are demanding it," says Jack Messman, chairman and CEO of Novell. "Key data center requirements are reliability, availability, scalability, manageability and performance. By combining Novell's market-proven enterprise expertise with strategic partner offerings and open source solutions, we will meet those requirements using Linux. Novell will give data center customers the functionality they need at a lower cost and with greater choice and flexibility." Novell says its strategy will focus on moving mission-critical data center applications from UNIX to Linux. Infrastructure that supports existing data center applications and solutions will be provided, the company says. The new data center offerings, will be available later this year. |
