NSS Group Completes Testing Round.
2005-02-14, HostMan.biz Independent security testing laboratory NSS Group (nss.co.uk) announced on Monday that it has released the results of the second round of its complete third party evaluation of intrusion detection and prevention products. The entire report can be viewed for free on its Web site with PDF and CD versions also available. Last year, Edition 1 of the IPS Group Test included five products, which likely covered the entire market at that time. Soon after the market began to expand with nine vendors signing up for Edition 2. Four of the vendors failed the strict tests leaving the five available in the new report - BroadWeb, Fortinet, SecureSoft, Top Layer Networks and V-Secure. Currently, ten vendors have already signed up for Edition 3, and another seven for the new Multi-Gigabit IPS report which begins testing later this year. "While the so-called 'deep inspection firewalls' are not ready for prime-time deployments, security administrators need to make the best use of the technology that is available," says Bob Walder, head of the NSS Group security testing lab in France, and author of the report. "For now that means a combination of firewalls, in-line intrusion prevention devices, and intrusion detection systems. They are likely to be in use for quite some time to come, too." The NSS IPS Group Test evaluates the performance, reliability, security effectiveness, and usability of Network IPS products. The test includes seven sections within three primary areas: performance and reliability; security accuracy; and usability. |
