Verizon Email Blocking Stirs Objections.
2005-01-17, HostMan.biz According to a report posted Friday on The Register, email servers at Internet service provider Verizon have been configured to refuse connections from Europe by default since December 22, prompting objections from European service providers. The company is reportedly intent on continuing with the practice, unblocking domains only after receiving complaints. The report said MessageLabs waited two days for its IP addresses to be whitelisted following its complaint that international users were having trouble emailing Verizon customers. The Register said it was unable to send its newsletters to Verizon newsletters as of Friday. Verizon originally claimed that it only blocked spam messages on an individual basis, but reportedly told Wired that it was blacklisting email from Europe in an effort to fight spam coming from the area. |
